Showing Gratitude for Your Fitness

Some days are just tough to get out of bed and keep relentlessly pursuing your goals. It can be easy to give in to the urge to complain about how sore, tired, or busy you are, but do you ever take the time to reflect on just how amazing your body is? We all have physical and aesthetic goals that we are working for, but do you ever stop to appreciate where you are at in that journey? One of the great things about fitness is that it always gives us something to work towards. We all want to lift heavier weights, learn difficult gymnastics skills, and do a workout faster than we’ve done it before. Its important to sometimes look past these goals and ideals to show gratitude toward your body that makes the journey possible. Here are some ways to thank your body:

  1. Focus on things you CAN do. There are probably things that once seemed impossible that you are now able to do without much thought. Rather than focusing on what you can’t do and who you don’t look like, choose to focus on the incredible things that your body allows me to do, day in and day out.
  2. Acknowledge everyday activities that are easy. Can you walk up a few flights of stairs with groceries? That’s awesome! Many people cannot or, if they can, they struggle tremendously. Acknowledge simple things that you are able to do with your body. It can be as simple as standing up and getting out of bed. Too often we take things like this for granted when in reality, we should be showing gratitude.
  3. Help others with your fitness. Maybe you notice someone struggling to carry their things across the street. Stop and help them. You are at an advantageous point where you have the strength and ability to do things many cannot!
  4. Appreciate your current state. You are already strong, you are enough, and you are constantly improving. Even when you’re sore, tired, and cranky, your body can endure and keep pushing the boundaries of what you can and cannot do. Acknowledge and appreciate this while you keeping working hard to improve yourself!
