Does your dog suffer from achy or stiff joints? Is this normal and what can you do?

Now I will be the first to admit I'm no expert when it comes to dog anatomy or dog supplements either. This is based on my own experiences I've had with my dog and from stories shared with me! If you think your dog may be suffering from a joint or ligament injury, we suggest you consult with your veterinarian for more info!

Does your dog ever wake up stiff or achy? Is there any limping associated with it? Chances are if your pup is active, it's common for them to experience soreness/stiffness just like humans do. If you have ever noticed any of these things, but they disappear with rest it's probably nothing to worry about, but did you know your pup can take supplements just like you? That's right! Fish oil, glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, etc...can all be digested by your dog to help his or her joints and aid in recovery! Here are some top notch brands that we suggest you take a look at. As always, consult with your vet before giving your dog any of these products!

1) Cosequin DS plus MSM chewable tablets by Nutramax

-this brand is known for high quality products that contain ingredients to help joint functioning, promote cartilage healing, and decrease inflammation. It's also easy to chew and digest. My pup unfortunately had 2 TPLO surgeries (ACL repair), so I've experimented with quite a few joint supplements during this experience. She seemed to enjoy the taste. It is a bit pricier than some supplements, but you get your money's worth! They also have capsules available, but i would suggest not going that route unless you know for certain your pup won't mind!

2) Hip and Joint Chews for Dogs by Genuine Naturals

-this product contains turmeric, which is a natural anti-inflammatory. It also contains vitamins and essential oils to help with joint recovery and pain relief. It still contains glucosamine, MSM, and chondroitin, but also has vitamin C and E in it for additional nutrients.

3) Infinite Pet Supplements for Dogs

-another one my pup has tried, the only downside to this is that it's a rather large size tablet. We had to chop it up to avoid her knowing it was in the bowl! This is another organic brand that contains natural ingredients. If your pup has no problem chewing treats, he/she may really enjoy this one!

4) Hip and Joint Supplement for Dogs by TerraMax Pro

-this one is by far one of my favorites! Since day 1 of using this, my pup has loved the taste, it's super easy to pour into her food bowl, and it's long lasting so I'm not running out quickly! This contains high doses of glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM, but also includes hyaluronic acid which has been studied to help connective tissue and cartilage. It has been shown that liquid supplements have a better absorbency rate than traditional pills or capsules, making this a high choice for many people!

As always, administer anything to your pup with caution and be sure to consult with your vet first! If you notice your pup is not acting normal or seems to be in pain, keep an eye on it and speak with someone to ease your mind! Get outside with your pup today and play!
