Building Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is your ability to get yourself to do what’s necessary even when you don’t feel like doing it. Most of us can agree that discipline is one of the most important virtues in our pursuit of self-improvement. Without the ability to exercise self-control, it is challenging to will ourselves to get the important things done. This makes it nearly impossible to see the kind of progress and results we really want - both inside and outside of the box. Here are a few reasons to try to hone in on your habits and self-discipline:

  1. You’re not always going to be motivated. Some days you’re just not going to feel like you want to get up and go to the gym. Self-discipline will ensure that regardless of how you feel, you will stick to your routine and commitments to reach your goals.
  2. Failures and setbacks happen. Failure and roadblocks are inevitable on the road to success. It is imperative to realize that these setbacks can be used to slingshot you forward on your journey. Self-discipline keeps you going regardless of any magnitude failure or letdown.
  3. Temptations are common. Temptations are all over the place in today’s world. Its typically easier to fall into the pull of fatigue, friends, and cravings throughout our busy days. If your will is larger than the want, you will always beat these daily temptations.
  4. Others are watching. Remember, there is always someone watching as are navigating your own journey, By showing dedication and resilience, you are imparting the importance of self-discipline on those around you!

If you give into laziness and resistance with basic daily tasks, such as making your bed, how do you expect to overcome that resistance when things really get hard like in a tough workout? Rather than looking at mundane tasks as repetitive and bothersome, challenge yourself to seize an opportunity to build your self-discipline. It will benefit you in the long run!
